4NT versions, TCI

This is my (very incomplete) collection of old 4NT versions. I have listed all old 4NT versions I got or know of.

Any help from you in finding the the very first 1.00 or any other missing version is very much appreciated.

Note that these are all legitimate shareware versions and you need the appropriate brand program to register them.

Most of these files are mainly of interest for research purposes. For actual use select the final, most bug free release of a major version.

For JP Software's notes on the development of  4NT see JP Software's 4NT history

Latest versions, public betas, etc.: ftp://ftp.jpsoft.com/

New:

TCI is a new JP Software application for tabbed ordering of console app windows. Planned for distribution as a standalone app and part of 4NT V.8nn

TCI

  • TCI 1.00                                    TCI (it was named TConsole in its first beta versions) is a tabbed interface for console mode applications (4NT, CMD, etc.). The TCI window displays a row of tabs representing each console session; clicking on a tab makes that console the visible one. (This is similar to the tabbed interface in GUI apps like FireFox.)

If you normally run a number of console sessions simultaneously, TConsole makes it much easier to keep them organized. TCI also provides some UI advantages, such as a simpler mouse copy/paste, a toolbar and status bar (like Take Command), the ability to attach and detach console sessions, searching the scrollback buffer, saving the buffer to a file, and printing the buffer.

TCI will probably sometime be part of 4NT. It will then probably also include a number of hooks & APIs to allow TConsole and 4NT and other cooperative apps to communicate. TConsole will also be available as a separate product for users of CMD, Monad, BASH, TCSH, etc.

If you're a power user of the command line, you've probably gone from DOS to Windows XP/NT or Vista by now. For these operating systems JP Software offers 4NT and Take Command, flexible and powerful command processors in the tradition of and mostly compatible with 4DOS:

More than 100 new commands, improved command line editing, and thousands of other features for work at the command prompt. In addition, they are powerful batch file programming tools, providing extensions such as DO loops, error and exception handling, block-structured logic, a powerful integrated batch debugger, third-party plugins, and over 300 built-in variables and functions.

TCI is a graphical application that allows you to run multiple console applications (for example, command processors such as 4NT, CMD, bash, PowerShell, etc.) within a single tabbed window.
